Scrapbuster Sampler: Block 30

The Grand Finale for the 1st Annual Scrap-A-Thon!

Wow! Isn’t it crazy how quickly a year passes? Today is the last day of the 1st Annual Scrap-a-thon. When we started the event on 2021 April 1st, we hoped a few quilters would be interested. Much to our amazement (and great happiness), the online quilting world responded enthusiastically with 1,040 people joining. How amazing! It is not about the numbers but rather the opportunities to be inspired by others that it represents. We love bringing people together to encourage and support one another.

We hope you will join us, beginning tomorrow – 2022 April 1st – for the start of a new adventure, the 2nd Annual Scrap-A-Thon! That’s right, we aren’t wasting any time. We are moving right into another year of online community sewing, but this year it will be even better! We have many bonus (free) projects to share with you and, of course, lots of prizes!

So, watch for tomorrow’s announcement and sign-up right away!

We have enjoyed sharing a variety of blocks with you throughout March for the Scrapbuster Sampler. Today we focused on using up miscellaneous half-square triangles. An alternate plan is also mentioned below.

We present BLOCK 30 . . .

Block 30 consists of:

  • {18} half-square triangles 2-1/2″ (Red Dots/Background)
  • {18} half-square triangles 2-1/2″ (Pink Dots/Background)

For the quick reference chart to create half-square triangles, click HERE.

Note: As shown in the picture below, we chose 2 backgrounds to pair with the pink dot fabric and used our other 2 backgrounds to pair with the red dot fabric. If you would rather not use 36 half-square triangles, here’s another option:

  • Create {1} Square in a Square with {1} center square 4-1/2″ (pink dots) and {4} squares 2-1/2″ (background).
  • Create {8} Flying Geese with {4} rectangles 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ (pink dots) and {4} rectangles 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ {red dots) with {16} squares 2-1/2″ (background).
  • To complete the block, use {8} half-square triangles (pink dots/background} and {8} half-square triangles (red dots/background).

Construct the block

  • Note: All blocks will be created using a 1/4″ seam allowance.
  • Create half-square triangles.
  • Arrange as shown below.
  • Sew neighboring units together to create rows. Press seams.
  • Sew neighboring rows together. Press seams.

Your block measures 12-1/2″ unfinished. Once sewn into a quilt, it will measure 12″ finished.

With your block completed, remember to SHARE it on INSTAGRAM with the following:
